Annual Conference of AIJA in Buenos Aires

This year, the international organisation AIJA held a conference in Buenas Aires. Dr Christian Elbert, one of the founding partners of the Elbert Vagedes Study, was on the organisational committee for the conference. The event which took place between the 17th and the 21st of September in the Hilton Puerto Madero saw the coming together of more than 400 lawyers from many different countries.

The annual meetings of AIJA have been held in many important cities all over the world, the most recent being held in Charleston, USA (2010) Amsterdam (2011) Barcelona (2012) and this year, for the first time, the conference went to South America and the city of Buenas Aires.

The programme included many academic activities, in which important themes on the global legal agenda were put forward, and also some leisure and social activities which gave the professionals a chance to get to know one another. Some of the themes covered were, Arbitrary Law, Banking Law, Finances, Capital Markets, International Business, Corporate Law, Energy and Environment, Intellectual Property, Real Estate, Technology, Media, Telecommunications and Transport.

AIJA (International Association of Young Lawyers) is a non profit organisation founded in 1962 and based in Belgium, dedicated to promoting cooperation and the exchange of ideas amongst young professionals from all over the world through the organisation of courses, seminars and conferences. The association has over 4000 members in 80 countries around the world. It’s the only international association focused on young lawyers (Young Lawyers being those under 45 years of age.)
